Danial Zeinolabedini, Juvenile Criminal, Passed Away After Assault and Battery by Security Agents in Mahabad Prison

Human Rights in Iran – On Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 Danial Zeinolabedini, a juvenile criminal imprisoned in Mahabad Prison who had been transferred to solidarity cell for participating in protests against a lack of accessibility to hygiene and disinfection products passed away after assault and battery and torture by security agents in prison.

According to Human Rights in Iran quoting from Amnesty International on Sunday, March 29th, 2020 after prisoners of Mahabad prison protested for lack of access to hygiene and disinfection products and inappropriate situation of prison from the point of hygiene to avoid them get infected by Corona Virus and also being deprived of the right to go temporary leave and civil rights. Danial Zeinolabedini, a juvenile criminal born on August 19th, 2000 and imprisoned in Mahabad Prison, convicted of “homicide” after being sent to solidarity passed away due to assault and battery be security guards and agents.

According to this report, Danial Zeinolabedini, after protests in Mahabad Prison on March 29th, 2020 was transferred to solidarity cell and then transferred to Miandoab Prison and there, was subject of assault and battery and violent behavior.

Danial’s family declared: “on contact, he made on March 31st, 2020 mentioned due to hard assault and battery, he has difficulty breathing and needs to receive healthcare and just two days later, on April 2nd, 2020 it was announced to them he has passed away.”

He was convicted of murder in November 2018 and sentenced to death, which has been approved by Islamic Republic High Court, while he insisted, he was innocent and not plead guilty. It is necessary to bear in mind that, according to The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, at the time the homicide happened Danial was under 18 years of age, i.e. he amounted as a child and executing to sentencing him to death for a crime in that age is in compliance with international measures, but Islamic Republic Judiciary system in these cases, keep them in prison until they fulfill the age requirement and then execute them. The main reason is that according to Islamic Penal Code, a child is someone under the religious mature age i.e. 15 lunar years for boys (almost 13 years of the solar calendar) and 9 lunar years for girls (almost 8 years of the solar calendar) and after that, they have the criminal reliability, even though the law in Iran has forbidden executing anyone under 18 years of age and judges avoid that.Danial Zeinolabedini, Juvenile Criminal, Passed Away After Assault and Battery by Security Agents in Mahabad Prison

In the last weeks by spreading the Corona Virus and a large number of infected people, especially among prisoners because they have to live in groups and their deprivation to hygiene products and lack of other healthcare services and products, a huge wave of protests and dissatisfactions took place in different prisons in Iran.
